Melons!

Post: # 33098Post Millymollymandy »

My Charentais melons have ripened! I can't believe it - I thought the plants were dying because I had to prune them hard to get through them to water them, and I have lots of dinky little tennis ball sized melons (and some bigger ones up to 3 x tennis ball size) - which are still small compared to commercially grown ones.

However they started to turn yellow and fall off the plants - and they are ripe inside! Now what do I do with them all?

Can you do anything with them to preserve them apart from turn them into jam (which I really don't want to do having already got about 4 years worth of jams and jellies :pale: )?

We are eating them, but we've also got millions of plums and pears to eat too! Help!

Where did that D I N K emoticon come from?

You can liquidise them and blend with rum and sugar. By the time you sober up, it should be spring again. :drunken:

Tennis ball measuring system

Post: # 33141Post tremone »

Are Tennis balls the International standard in terms of measurement of melons, surely rugby balls would be a more suitable measuring device. We need ISO to come and tell us what to use.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I didn't know I could freeze them - don't they turn to mush? Will give it a go anyway!

I'm really pleased despite their size because I didn't sow the seed until June and I've read that they need 4 months growing and mine have had barely 3!
