Back on the road again.......

Well.. it seems like a long old time since I drove the car... it is getting on for 3 months since I sat behind the wheel... reason? Well, quite simply my car needed work doing on it to get it through the MOT and I couldn't afford it... the car was quite thirsty too, so we had to weigh that up when considering whether to get the work done.... then one of David's work colleagues offered us a car that would be going to the scrapper if we didn't want it... and it turned out that it needed about half the amount of money spending on it... so we went with that. It's a slightly newer car too, but it's manual.... I've been driving an automatic for the past 6 years so it was a bit of a shock to get into a car... and YES... I turned the key, and didn't use the clutch to put it into reverse... crrrrrrrrrrrrrunnnnchhhhhhhhh!! yikes!

Anyway - I managed... didn't stall the car either... well ok.. I did start up a couple of times while it was in gear... but other than that... and the heavy foot on the accelerator while setting off in first... it was ok. How fine it was to be out and about again... I collected my veggie bucket and went into Alford to do the tax bit.... almost £100 BLIMEY !!! Wouldn't it be good if there was a pay as you go system in place for tax and insurance.... I don't use the car every day... (never have) and try to combine journeys so that we don't drive unnecessarily... it might even convince more people to do the same.

Anyway - to celebrate I popped into the Howe Pantry and bought a tub of Green & Blacks Organic Chocolate and Ginger ice cream............ MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Delicious!

Good on yer Shirlz!! I drive an auto myself and if I get into a car with gears I always say "what's this other pedal for!?".

I agree with you with the pay as you go system too! Great idea - tax should be paid at the end of the year - taking your mileage into account!!! Also - our Range Rover tax should be cheaper because it's LPG!!!

Good to hear you are mobile again Shirl and things have all worked out. I'm the opposite, I hop into an auto and I keep thinking I need to change gears and always forget to put it in park... have had to run after the odd auto a few times after getting out and turning round to see it rolling away!
