Vegetarian black pudding

Post: # 29152Post Chickpea »

Yesterday we had vegetarian black pudding for dinner as part of a big veggie fry-up (I'm not veggie but my husband and eldest son are, so almost everything I cook at home is veggie).

The black pudding was delicious, very similar to normal black pudding in taste and texture. Very nice indeed, I strongly recommend it.

It's from www.rsireland.co.uk but I got mine from a local farm shop. You might find it in health food shops or even just your normal butcher might get one for you.

How on earth do you make a vegetarian black pudding? Did it have an ingredients list on the packet?

I'd be interested to see the ingredients list too. Black pudding is one of my favourites.. they've got some interesting recipes on the website that you posted the link to CP!

You can get vegetarian haggis which is rather nice too but I prefer traditional meat eating ones myself

MacSween's vegetarian haggis good, we ahe that quite often for the non meat eaters here, and I've made my own vegetarian one when I've made meat haggis too.
Never heard of the black pudding, though, would be interested in giving that a go.

MacSweens. That was it. I've had it too and it's great isn't it? I was trying to remember the maker and just couldn't bring it to mind.

Same way you can have vege bacon and vege hot dogs I suppose. It looks and tastes like black pudding but it doesn't contain anything that was once alive.

Or do you mean how do they make it look and taste like black pudding withoutcontaining anything that was once alive? In that case, I don't know, but I salute them for it anyway.

I agree on the veggie haggis - MacSween's is the best. And my local shop sells it!

No ingredients list on the Black Pudding? I'd be a bit wary of "flavourings" etc; there's so much you can do in a laboratory.... :?
