Hi from NE Scotland

Post: # 28192Post Lord Azrael »

Hi,
I'm from Alves in Moray, Scotland and just found the site. I haven't had much chance to look around yet, but it certainly seems very interesting. We produce quite a bit of our own fruit and veg and try to keep costs down wherever possible, but am I the only one that finds the initial cost of free power very expensive? :(
Still, maybe there'll be some ideas on here for me to peruse......

hello there Lord Azreal, you are not the only one who thinks that, I did however hear of someone who painted a radiator black, filled it with anti freeze and water and uses it to heat her water, so I guess that could potentially be just the cost of a tin of paint and a bottle of antifreeze.

Welcome to the site.

Hi Lord Azreal!

Great to meet you... there seems to be LOADS of stuff happening in Moray with regards to the environment.

I'm assuming you've got a copy of the Moray Sustainability Handbook??

Mine is a little A5 book - not ringbinder. The Rough Guide to Moray's Future.

taken from the sustainable scotland newsletter May 2005 :

Moray Sustainability Handbook
REAP-CSV Moray has just published a neat ‘Sustainability Guide’ for Morayshire. With local, national and international information on a wide range of sustainability issues the publication is available from Rod Lovie at the Rural Environmental Action Project, CSV Moray, 177 Mid Street, Keith, Banffshire, AB55 5BL, Tel: 01542 888070, e-mail: rlovie@reap-csv.net. It is hoped that the guide will be put on-line in the future.

That may be the one, I'll have to rake around and find it. I think I filed it away as I already did most of the suggested things in it. We don't have any recycling collections out here as we're in the countryside, but we take a car full to either the Forres or Elgin recycling centre every few weeks.

Hiya Azrael

Hope you don't insist on such formalities as the full title...

There I thought - NE Scotland, another one from Aberdeenshire - but you are even further north!

Welcome to the site.

Btw - you are not, by any chance, into phantasy...? I seem to have read your name somewhere before - or am I imagining things...

Hiya, nice to see another NE'er on here. I think we're taking over! I'm away over by Turriff, but I was in your neck of the woods a week or so ago. My DH lives and works in Inverness, so we sometimes go thru Elgin.

Yes, it's strange really. Maybe we're more inclined to be greener up here in Scotland (??)

Well, we have more forests, and fewer people... Relatively speaking. All that makes for more green!

Oh yes, and some politically green in the parliament, too.

Yeah, we certainly have more space each than they do down south, I think. Perhaps folk who are more drawn to the countryside gravitate north so they can have a bit more space.
