Rain like you wouldn't believe
We've just been hit by an absolutely torrential downpour. To give you an idea, all our 200-litre water butts were empty but they filled to overflowing in less than five minutes!
There's water flowing in torrents everywhere - the gutters are overflowing, the roads have turned into streams, the steading is flooding, etc
Whew!

It's just started to rain here too - fairly steady - wonder whether we'll get the same here.
Did you get thunder too??

It's just eased off to a nice steady rain. Unfortunately, what we had earlier was the wrong sort of rain - a heavy flash event that simply floods everything and runs off.
It's flattened the potatoes and broad beans, but everything else is okay. The pigs in the byre were flooded out of their just cleaned pen - so had to be moved back into the smaller pen while we mopped out the big one (we'll leave it to dry until tomorrow).
On the plus side, we have 3,000 litres of water in the butts - every single one is full. It's quite astonishing when you consider we had just 100 litres left three hours ago and could easily have filled another 3,000 litres of containers if we'd had them.
Anyway, the nice steady rain we're getting now is perfect! Now we just need a few hours of this a day for a couple of weeks...

I remember rain we used to have that down here once. We can't use a hosepipe on the allotment so the daily watering has got to be quite a chore, waterbutts are empty too so it means walking the length of the allotment with two 11 litre cans.
A few hours a day or even a few mins would really not go amiss.

I had that rain 3 weeks ago but everything is drying up again now, the waterbutts are empty and the pond level is dropping rapidly and the bits of grass that perked up are flopping or crisping again.
I've got the seep hose on my greengage tree every night because it is going yellow, and if I don't water it I will lose the (heavy) crop like I did last year. It had lost half of its leaves and most of the fruit by the time the few remaining fruit were ripe.
I WILL have plum jam this year, I will!!

We only got as far as the thunder again...
It's been threatening to rain for a month or so, but nothing doing. Apart from 5 minutes of light drizzle on a good day.

Have had loads of crashing and banging with storms the last 3 days but hardly any rain at all. water butts are dry as and pond is slowly going down again like last year.
Its now deciding whether to chance not watering the veggies every night and losing them or using up all our water - not easy decision!

It finally rained last night here, too - I asked my neighbour if he remembered what that wet stuff was that was coming down...
Did I say rain?
About 15 minutes of strong drizzle. And that was it, again. You wouldn't believe that I live in the same county as Hillbilly and Stonehead!
So off we go, watering the garden again. Although, I'm getting a bit worried about our loch: Usually there's a strong flow over the weir, down to the burn that I have to cross to get to our sheep. Went across there just now, and hardly got the tyres wet. And the quadbike was making funny noises, as if the cooling was working overtime - help!
