Chicken Feed: Organic or other non GMO options ?

Post: # 253645Post sarahkeast »

I am about to get another batch of chickens and am having a hard time sourcing the organic layers pellets I used to get.

Just wondering what anyone else uses for their chooks ?

My main goals are:

cost low, or low as possible given the second goal;

avoid GMO; I really dont like the idea of feeding my kids and I eggs that have come from chooks eating GMOs, it is the corn that is not guaranteed apparently. Am I being over protective ? The whole Frankenstein food thing freaks me out. I buy organic [and grow] as much as I can and prioritize the things we eat the most of. Also dont particularly want to support the GMO industry.

Regular layers pellets are about £8-9 a sack and last time I got the organic it was about £12. I do sell a few eggs at work, but not enough to cover the cost of feed I dont think.

Thoughts please.
