It's nice to be nice

Post: # 252895Post irigg »

Just recently me and my partner were talking and the age old saying of (it's nice to be nice) came about.
My partner laughed at me and said that if half the country thought the same way as i do then it would be such a nice place, anyway at this time (last week) i was making the odd cup of tea for two council workmen who where freezing their nuts off while rendering the garages opposite my house. On the second day they turned up i just put the kettle on and brewed up for them and took their cups of tea out to them and told them that i had to go out and would not be back for a while so just to leave the mugs on the door step. When i returned home later that day they had finished and gone home. The mugs where left on the door step and to my surprise they had left me 4 bags of sand with a note saying thanks and the sand is to help you finish your crazy paving.

that is nice.

when i was a student i lived just opposite the underground and there was this homless guy who was allways begging outside. i used to see him looking through in bins for somthing to eat and i felt so bad for him.
if i past him on my way to the local shop i would allways buy somthing for him to eat and a few times iv seen him out my window when i was making dinner and iv taken him down some hot food for him.
he was allways so grateful.
he was a nice guy and i allways felt no one should have to eat from the bins.

i grew out of my paganism upon leaving high school and going to uni but i still hold onto this ideology.

do nice things and nice things will happen to you.
it is ture.
if you're horrible to people no one will like you or do anything nice for you.

although there is allways the risk of people taking advantage of your nice nature, but they will allways get whats comming to them in the end.

Sometimes i think we get so negative that we don't notice that most people are fine. And its easy to believe cliches if enough people repeat them. I live in London and have always heard people say 'people don't talk to each other in London' but that just hasn't been my experience. And when i was pregnant people often offered their seats on buses and tubes, and later helped me with the pram up steps etc. There were always some exceptions but most people I meet are nice and will help you if they can.

All our neighbours are for the most part, even older than us and we are in our 70s, and a few years back the wife of neighbour went into hospital leaving her 82 yr old husband to fend for himself, the OH insisted that he should eat with us. After time had past, we were surprised to find the local folk ringing us to find out if we wanted some pork, beef, that had just been butchered, or that they had a glut of this or that and did we want some, and in the mushroom season, we had Cepes coming out of our ears, (found on the doorstep). As for manure? Anyway it transpired that we were inducted into the village as one them just for that ( what was to us) one normal act.
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

It is a nice thread!

When i was at Uni there was a homeless bloke who used to sit at the entrance to the alley towards my house.
I always gave him chocolate or chips.

Once, as i walked down the alley he began to follow me. Being suspicious i turned round and told him that i would break his neck if he came closer...then he explained that he wanted to see me get home safely because i was nice to him.

After that, i chatted to him a bit and we talked about why i gave him food and not money. He was more grateful for the hot chips on a cold day.
