Can't recommend specific varieties but I buy all my seed potato from Orkney (off fleabay). I figure if they grow there then here shouldn't be a problem!

Well, there's a lot of different climates on the west coast, but the obvious choices would be Arran Pilot for a first early and Arran Victory for a main crop.

I believe that the origin of "Pink Fir Apple" is disputed between Scotland and Belgium, but a friend of mine has always said that it grows well on the Western Isles.

I'm on the other side of the country, but I've recently put a detailed post on my blog about growing potatoes in NE Scotland. It includes links to earlier posts detailing the varieties we've tried.

Growing potatoes

If you want kale to go with your tatties, I wrote about kale last night.

Growing kale.

Hopefully those will be of some help.

Just North of Oban, on the croft, we grew a good crop of Golden Wonder last year along with Sharps Express and some Arran Pilots.....
