Puerto rico (gran canary)

Post: # 250654Post old tree man »

Has anyone got any advice please, Jane and i have been given an opportunity to move there, to be honest when it comes to our health its really a no brainer when the heat is concidered, jane can still get her disability and after research we have found out that health care is pretty good, we are just not sure about land and properties if this does come to fruition it won't be until next november giving us plenty of time to organise ourselves, any advice about moving abroad will be most grateful :flower:

It's a lovely place, Russ. Full of holidaymakers in summer, though - but if that's OK with you, then you're alright. One word of warning though - buying property in Spain is a potential minefield (I'm not speaking as an expert, though) and can be a long, drawn-out affair. Spanish property laws are very different to English ones. You need to do a LOT of research before you make up your minds.

thanks mike, my son is starting his own buisness so we are thinking of renting first to get the feel of it, we are thinking of staying outside of town but coming into town to sell fresh fruit and veg to the tourists :flower:

I reckon renting is by far the best idea in the first instance: get the feel of the place without any over commitment.

actually, buying property in Spain, can be very quick, you could comp, ete within a week (or less ) of viewing and deciding!, but it can be
lenghthy too. one word of advice.....NEVER NEDER NEVEr use a solicitor "recommended" by the estate agent. in fact , use a gestoria, lots cheaper, and its what the locals would mainly use , if they use anyone.

Health care is excellent, and no lengthy waiting klists, either to see a specialist or get an operation ( well in Andalucia anyway), it is however noty "free" unless over 65, up until then you need to pay into system ( self employed, or employed) or be covered by an E111 or whatever its called these days.

the best bet, is as riff raff suggested to rent first
