Delighted to have found you...
At the risk of boring you, by way of introduction, here's just how I ended up at Self Sufficientish, writing this..
I've always aspired to be better, as most of us do. I've worked in London most of my life and gradually got sucked further and further in to the maelstrom of consumerism. I've just got married, I find myself with 2 not particularly cheap cars sitting on the drive and a bucket load of debt hanging round my neck. I hate my job (my boss is a megalomaniac bully) but that's another story entirely. I had an operation about 8 weeks ago and have been at home on an extended basis, unexpectedly. I've always loved wholesome food and am not a bad cook so to stave off the boredom and enjoy the lovely new kitchen we have, I've been baking bread and making biscuits, something my husband consumes at an incredible rate.
I realised that I could extend these money saving enterprises with a bit of planning, elsewhere at home. As a result, I've reduced our outgoings by about £300 by not really blinking or thinking too hard about it. I care deeply about the countryside, nature. I was brought up with an apple, plum and pear orchard and as my parents weren't loaded they had an allotment. I now hanker after all this wonderful stuff and have finally caught up with just WHY people do it. This is really just the start of that journey. It's a cliche, but I am starting to feel just a tiny bit freer already. The debt still weighs heavy but I am making inroads and feel as though I can get out of the grips consumerism and modern life holds on most of us. I am an optimist!
I would like to learn from you and on the way give my own learnings back...thanks for taking me in.

Deligted to have you
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
