Destination Nepal - ideas welcomed.
I plan on returning to Nepal having saved enough to survive out there for a while but i want some sort of project to focus on. If anyone has any ideas that you think may be suitable on a self-sufficiency encouraging and/or permaculture tip then i would be pleased to hear them. Here's a few i have been toying with:
1.) disseminate information by holding talks etc on the benefits of harm reduction with use of smokeless tobacco to existing smokers. This idea excites me the most and i think it could save/improve many lives out there though i'm very wary about giving a new habit to never smokers.
2.) food forest - establish some sort of food forest out there (is already one there but you can never have too many) but as my finances may not stretch to buying land i'd have to work something out.
3.) encourage beekeeping as an income source for locals - already a charity that operates there doing this but can't hurt to work alongside them or with them even.
Any ideas?

Hmm, if you're flying over there perhaps you could figure out how much carbon will be released into the atmosphere because of your trip and attempt to offset it by planting however many acres or hectares of forest that are necessary to mop it up?

You don't think T*scos will have to expel energy to make a new light? Call me what you like but at least i have never taken part in criminal damage and theft.Arwel wrote:Hmm, if you're flying over there perhaps you could figure out how much carbon will be released into the atmosphere because of your trip and attempt to offset it by planting however many acres or hectares of forest that are necessary to mop it up?
This is a cheeky way to make a little cold frame/container/cloche. It all started when I was in T***o and I noticed how the carpark lights would make awesome little coldframes. Anyways, I thought no more of it. When I arrived home I checked the back of the car and to my suprise there was a car park light!

I wasn't having a go and i didn't call you anything. It was a genuine suggestion and something i've been meaning to do to offset some of my past flights. Your beligerent and hostile reply has really got to me though so do what you want! (please note that it has taken a lot of self-control not to reply in a similarly rude and childish fashion)

I like the beekeeping idea - especially if you can join in a group which is already formed.
It's hard to imagine what might be needed in a place like Nepal. I subscribe to a site where someone has a project to provide every child who spends their life scavanging on rubbish tips with a pair of wellies. Strange but true! But do they have a tradition of children living like this in Nepal? Something make me think not.
Is their no forum aimed specifically at helping out in Nepal?

Well i didn't see people scavanging on rubbish tips but that's not too say they don't. There may be a forum on helping out in Nepal - i haven't come across one yet but i could try focusing my search. You might be right it could be a good idea to work with the beekeeping charity.Graye wrote:I like the beekeeping idea - especially if you can join in a group which is already formed.
