Making raised beds
Does anyone know of a good *cheap* source of scaffold planks? I have to make 6 12' x 8' beds along the lines shown on gardenfork.tv, and need to find a supplier who won't break the (limited) bank.

Nice thought....I've been a member of Freecycle here twice now, and last time resigned because I got pulled up for posting what was said was a duplicate post (it wasn't).
I have a feeling your face has to fit if you want to be on Yeovil Freecycle for very long. but thanks for the suggestion!

Not only Yeovil my friend......
Get the phone numbers of local scaffold companies and ask them if they have any damaged boards. They are not allowed to use dammaged or old boards for elf and safety so you can pick up quite a few that are shorter than full size or split ends etc.
Be upfront with them and tell them you want them for gardening and they are happy,[ generally ] to get rid of stuff lieing around the yard.

Re: Making raised beds
I can't help with sourcing your boards I'm afraid, but can I make a suggestion?
You say that you want to make raised beds measuring 12' x 8'. Very nice & plenty of room for lots of crops. However..... if you can resize & jiggle plans about a bit, the best size for beds is 4ft wide, with access either side. That way, you can comfortably reach all the way across & never ever have to walk on the soil. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to keep weed-free (relatively) and is really easy to work with. Just a suggestion

Re: Making raised beds
Did I say 12 x 8? Sorry, I meant 12 x 4, for exactly that reason. 12 x 4 is the deimnsion of the bed in the gardenfork.tv video.
I reckon we've got room for about 6 beds, and I'm currently following up Big Al's suggestion above.....
Apologies! And thanks for replying..

I got the last lot from an architectural salvage place, outside London they seem to collect all sorts of old stuff.I'm always banging onabout Armco, available from scrappers, cut with an angle grinder, often VERY cheap.

Is there a wood recycling concern operating down your way? They might be able to help.
Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?
