Someone dumped the Easter Bunny!
Someone dumped the Easter Bunny!
On the nature reserve where I'm doing my dissertation fieldwork. I noticed a cardboard box contaqining sawdust and a feed bowl and thought nothing of it (thinking that maybe someone re-leased a wild animal). Later as we were leaving I saw a pure white rabbit sitting under a buash. I walked right up to it and it only ran when I tried to pick it up. I think someone dumped it
So we (my dad and I) spent nearly 2 hours trying to coax it out and close enough to grab and put back in a box to take home. It's so noticable we think it might be much more likely to end up as fox food. It seems to have made itself at home in an old rabbit warren, there are four holes. We tried blocking three of them and waiting until it came out the fourth to grab it but we were unsuccessful and it was getting dark so we had to give up. Any ideas? I'd really like to help it. Anyone reckon it will survive ok? My dad wants to catch it, I think he'd like to look after it, he's a big softie. How do we catch it without scaring it too much or injuring it? I'm just not quick enough

could you borrow a trap off a local animal charity if you have one.? that would be the best thing.
BUT then again... it would have to be a good one, so that the foxes couldnt get it...

No ideas, but will have a think. Bloody people make me sick, why could they not just take it to a rescue. Good Luck in catching it, and I hope you Dad gives it a lovely new home.

This might sound random but do u know anyone with ferrets? If its down the warren, place a net over each exit, send the ferret down to flush it out, just be ready to scoop the net so as the ferret doesn't make contact. Just a thought!
If it keeps away from the fox it'll survive a while but I doubt it long term. X

The alternative to a ferret and purse nets, is to have a larger net, then when the rabbit is out, quietly draw the net across between the rabbit and the holes, then scare the rabbit. The rabbit will then run to its hole and get caught in the net.

It might not live a long life in the wild, but at least it will be a free life!
Re: Someone dumped the Easter Bunny!
Forgot to add, the rabbit dissapeared. No blood or fluff around so I hope it has moved further into the nature reserve or been caught by someone.
