Revolution now!

Post: # 22647Post Martin »

Having just read a net article about a chap who wants to live completely off-grid being refused planning consent for a titchy 5kw wind turbine, on the grounds that it could be seen from a virtually unused footpath..............
Which bloody planet are they on? - surely not the same one that I'll do my best to save from self-destructing! :?
Government has demonstrated total unwillingness to do anything sensible, instead, being far more concerned with setting up the most draconian police state the world has ever known! :dave:
The time has come! Let the revolution start here and now - if you want renewables, be considerate to your neighbours, and JUST DO IT - they can't lock us all up! :dave:
Government - get out of the bloody way, we've got our home planet to save - go and do something useful, like planting trees! :flower:

Yeah mate, am convinced that's the trick...

Just do it, and see how keen they are to spend their money sorting you out. It is only when we try and do the right thing that they have free access to our wallets and make us dance like monkeys.

I've been told we can't have a wind turbine either - it would have to be at least 200m from the house apparently. It also doesn't fit the area (farms?!).

The planners also say it would be in sight of the Dunnydeer Hill Fort (although there is a belt of trees between us and the fort, so you can't even see our house). Strangely, there are big housing developments going in within sight of the hillfort but they're okay.

The whole planning system is bizarre - if we were slightly larger in land area then we wouldn't need planning permission for many agricultural buildings as we'd be a farm and there are a lot of permitted development rights.

Because we're a smallholding however, we need to get permission for pretty much everything. So I just make everything mobile (with the aid of a JCB) and plan to move things every couple of years.

I also stuck solar hot water on the roof without PP, even though we're allegedly in sight of Dunnydeer, and am awaiting the council letter/knock on the door...

if it's of any use, apparently it has been succesfully argued that if a turbine is on a "tilt up" tower, it is a "temporary structure", like a shed - if you mount it on a trailer, there's no argument - it's temporary!
Apparently, if you do bung one up, and they object, you can seek retrospective consent. :geek:
