Quail Hutch

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

Quail Hutch

Post: # 228009Post FelixFire »

First off, id like to say hello, im new here. Im 20 year old male from Herefordshire, and iv just started to take an interest in growing things and other countryside past times. Iv joined the site because every time i type a question into Google it comes up with this site at the top of the list...so makes sense.

Anyway, i really want to get some quails, iv got the wood to build the hutch, but i really need some advice which i cant seem to find any definite answer to on the web.

First of all, what sort of male to female ratio should i be looking at? I really want to only keep maybe up to 5 birds, just as a hobby rather than trying to sell eggs ect.

Id also like to know what they need in there hutch, do they need beams to perch on or is just a box ok? And in there outside bit do i need to put a floor in (like chicken wire) to stop rats/foxes digging there way in? Also if i wanted to keep about 5 how much space would they need?

Thanks
