Science survey

Post: # 226002Post MKG »

In a recent survey for Birmingham Science Project (3000 people took part) ...

44% thought memory-erasing a la Men in Black was real.
30% thought time travel exists.
24% thought teleportation happens.
22% thought light sabres a la Star Wars existed.
18% thought they could see gravity.

WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!!!

Doesn't say, OJ. Just that it was a survey commissioned by Birmingham Science City as part of National Science and Technology Week. I don't think it's one to take too seriously - but I'd bet the results aren't too far from reality.

Are you implying none of those things are true, surely not ... I time travel nearly every day, forwards from 9 am to 5 pm in a matter of minutes. Can't seem to do it on wet days though, must be a scientific explanation for that temporal anomaly.

memory erasing is certainly possible - but needs an alcohol catalyst
time travel IS possible, but only forwards at 1 second per second
teleportation clearly happens - or why do I have so many odd socks?

To be fair teleportation does exist - but currently only at the level of subattomic particles - search New Scientist

Approximately 27% of people will give silly answers to surveys for a laugh.

True indeed, Dunc - and you can do just about anything with a good percentage. It was only a few weeks ago that I read a group of US senators were astounded when they learned that 50% of the US population had below-average intelligence.
