Hops

Post: # 21792Post Hillbilly »

Well its a plant and so it seemed best to go in here..or maybe the homebrew section as we plan to use them for its god-given purpose  Could be a unmitigated disaster, but then it might be ok!

Anyone any experience of growing these? I am about to embark on my first attempts (yes, in sub tropical north scotland). I've studied the general growing guidelines etc but wondered if anyone had some tips/advice?

I had some of the decorative variety (golden hops, I think) growing in my garden, planted by former tenants - they did very well and were quite difficult to eradicate. If the "proper" variety does just as well, you should have no problem with it whatsoever...

I'm about to plant some too, but they should do fine here in tropical West Wales, as they grow wild along the hedgerows - I was admiring some from horseback as I rode round the lanes the other day. Hope they don't trim the hedges before I can "harvest" them for hop pillows . . .

We'll have to compare notes Hillbilly.
