haveing a break

Post: # 209950Post JessieMac »

I know that I am a weak person but I am having the winter off........I have cleaned out all the raised beds and used all of the compost in one of my large bins to thickly mulch them and they are having a rest also. For this winter I am going to buy all my veg and plan to start with a clean slate in the spring and plan out my planting instead of putting things in where I can find a space,my friend is giving me two more greenhouses and this will be more than enough to keep me going over the winter.
Can anyone recommend a book that will help me plan out my planting the ones I have been looking at are so complex I feel like giving up before I start . :flower:

Oh Jessie, I know how you feel - I bet you don't manage it though! We didn't manage to plant anything this year due to several factors and I've been so miserable not being able to nip out and pick anything

Now we've managed to move most of our raised beds I've already started getting stuff planted for next year - had to resort to buying some plugs rather than seeds. Onions and garlic on order too. I'm desperate to get planting - I'm even going to put in broad beans (which I don't like) just so I'll be able to see something growing

Anyway, as for books, have a look at any Bob Flowerdew books - I always find his stuff very readable - the Organic bible for instance. There are loads of others and I'm sure others will have other favourites.

You lucky blighter - being given 2 greenhouses!!!!

I really like a book by Lawrence D. Hills 'Grow Your Own Fruit and Veg' ..He wrote really practical and ish sort of gardening stuff, founded the HDRA ,inspired Geoff Hamilton, and John Seymour, and you can buy the book second hand pretty cheap.
