Help Please?

Post: # 208957Post fran »

This is a bit cheeky, but I can't seem to get a photo on to this post.

Would you please nip over to my blog http://fran-bonnieofclyde.blogspot.com/ ... -idea.html and have a look at the strange vegetable that I have been given today. They are about 2 inches long, cucumber green coloured and have tough spikey skins. The seeds are flatish and square. The inside is quite fiberous not watery like a cucumber/gherkin. Has anyone got any ideas please?

Thanks for looking :salute:

yes, I think that they are Achocha
Achocha is an unusual vegetable from South America that is remarkably easy to grow.
It is impressively productive, easy to grow, and can be used raw in salads when small a bit like a cucumber.
But the best thing is that they really taste just like sweet green peppers when fried.

I grew some the other year. they was nice, they took up loads of space.

available from the awesome people at http://www.realseeds.co.uk/cucumbers.html

I've no idea I'm afraid but I'd be interested to know if you do find out. Have you tried one yet?

Thank you John, I have now googled achocha and I am convinced you are right. They do taste good. I have loads, so I am going to save some seeds ready for next year. I will remember to leave lots of space, but by all accounts they can pretty much be left to their own devices. Zoe, if you want me to dry you out some seeds, pm me with your address and I will send you some.

Fran - just copy and paste the URL of the photo (right click on the photo, scroll down to properties, click on that then copy the address) then paste it here, then highlight and click IMG to put IMG tags on each end (just the same as if you were doing bold or italics). Then the photo will show up.
