Fancy becoming my neighbour?
The smallholding over the road from me has just gone on the market (it's the one with the Stonehead Circle within its boundaries).
There's no house as it burned down last year and some of the land is very steep, but there are a couple of good fields, a horse arena, some outbuildings and woodland. On the downside, while they say there is water the smallholding has run dry before, the fencing is very neglected, winter access can be difficult (steep track and heavy snow) and the place needs a lot of tidying.
Whitebrow Farm, Insch, is in three lots, 24 acres in total, and the owners are asking for offers over £120,000 for the whole. I'd love to buy the smallest lot of 6.8 acres (directly opposite our top gate), but it's well beyond us.
Anyway, if any of the Ishers are interested, Insch does have good facilities and we'd be quite welcoming (well, possibly excepting snooty and arrogant horsey types!).
You may even be able to get some money back pretty quickly as our other neighbour who lives up against the boundaries wants to buy about half an acre to put in a new drive for his house.
It's on the ANM website as a "development opportunity" but all of us here would oppose more than one house going in on the site because of the water situation (it already runs dry with the existing number of households).

Funny that the brochure doesn't mention any problems with water supply...
Is that the house that burned down? If it was anywhere near here, I would go for it - ok, I'm about £100.000 short
, but I'd just have to buy a lottery ticket... Let's just hope that not another "horsey" lot buys it. Maybe, if you see potential buyers looking at it, show yourself in "your true colours", i.e. covered with pig shit, scythe in hand, and a screaming kid running wild...
I know that's not the reality, but it might put the wrong kind of people off buying!

We're ahead of you there - we've told N across the road to grow his beard long, run about with his shotgun and generally act like a demented old loon. He said he doesn't need to act!ina wrote:Funny that the brochure doesn't mention any problems with water supply...

Oh, and the buyer will have to accept the fact that you get naked people dancing around the stone circle from time to time...

PS Yes, that's the house that burned down. And I've already contacted both the council and selling agent to tell them officially about the water situation. The agent was very, very p***** off, even more when I said I'd told the council we'd oppose more than one house.

Always makes me twitchy when neighbouring properties go up for sale. Its stressful! You can only hope the new 'owners' will be happy with folk dancing naked round the circle otherwise I can see some lighthearted, if annoying, retribution being dished out. We looked at a place at Christskirk but they were keeping the steadings on lease (we guessed for potential development in the future should the money run out) ,although we could have use of them, so backed off.
Fellow falconer (now in Canada) applied Ina's tactics when the place next to his on the side of the Tap o'Noth went up for sale. Wandered around the place screaming and cursing like a thing possessed whenever he got the scent of a buyer heading up the track. Worked a treat. Then he moved

We'd love to see another smallholding family move in. Someone friendly, with kids (once the current owners move out we'll be the only family with kids out this way so our oldest will be the only one on the school bus) and different skills to us so we can all help each other out from time to time.
It's probably too much to hope for, though!

So you're a falconer, then? You'd be quite welcome to fly them on our land - we wage continuing war on pigeons and rabbits so any help is always appreciated.Hillbilly wrote:Fellow falconer (now in Canada)

PS Inside now after three heavy hailstorms in a row - ouch, ouch and ouch again. Might as well do some vacuuming and tidying.

Shirlz - don't know what the place is called - drive up from Rhynie towards T O'N and on a bend is a farm, turn lright just by that and head off towards the hill along a track. His place is, was, on the right a good bit up the track. He left 2 maybe 3 years ago? MB?
Stonehead. Both my birds are gone now - didn't have the time when I was working in town - but when my new one comes home in July/August I will most CERTAINLY take you up on your offer once she is fit to be flown. Despite living on the Estate I have always had problems finding somewhere safe to fly them. Cheers.
