Christmas Pudding Day!

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Christmas Pudding Day!

Post: # 200265Post grubbysoles »

OK, ok, I know it's early, but I take my Christmas pudding very seriously! Does anyone else make it in June, or am I being a weirdo? Today is Christmas Pudding Day. Here are all my ingredients laid out on top of the oven last night, ready to be mixed today. I wouldn't normally lay them out (I'm not quite that sad) but I wanted my 3-year old to walk in and see it all this morning and get all excited. As soon as she's home from pre-school we'll be getting stuck in  Mixing today, leaving to soak overnight, and we'll be spending the whole of tomorrow steaming (making 2 little ones, so 16 hours steaming in all  )

I'm being very well-behaved and traditional this year - actually STICKING TO THE RECIPE - and making Delia Smith's Classic Christmas Pud. My boyfriend bought me her Happy Christmas book last Christmas, so it seems only grateful to use it  OK, actually, I had to cheat a tiny bit on the recipe - I couldn't find barley wine so I bought some Bishop's Finger ale instead (a Kentish classic!) and I couldn't afford a bottle of rum so I'm nicking the last of my boyfriend's Jack Daniel's instead. Hey, alcohol's alcohol!

Sorry about the poor quality of the pic - mobile phone effort....

Oh no, when's Stir-Up Sunday?!!

Actually, I've realised that in my haste running around the supermarket trying to buy everything before the baby got too grumpy to go on, all the dried fruit I bought is covered in palm oil :( I've been trying to stay away from palm oil because of the orangutans. My Christmas pudding has probably just sentenced an orangutan family to death :(

I'm a bad person :banghead:

I don't think all palm oil is bad for orangutans, I think some of it is produced in a way that doesn't threaten them. You might be ok!

Wow, late November. I really AM early! Oh well, it's fun :santa:

Cassiepod - yes, I guess it is a good one for the summer hols! Might be worth doing all the chopping/grating/zesting in advance. My poor little 3-year old's attention span didn't quite last the entire, labour-intensive process

Hurrah for Christmas! :santa:

Is it bad that I'm swigging the left-over pudding alcohol while I'm cooking the dinner? hic :drunken:
