Do you wash your ducks?

Post: # 198785Post cooltrikerchick »

ok it might be a silly question,

the thing is up until now i have left my head rule my heart at the farm auctions, so we have ended up with quite a few ducks that are either crosses, or we havent got a drake for. Because of the amount of food we are going through we have got to get realistic, and only keep pure breeds, so at least we can hatch pure breed, rather than crosses, and sell the fertile eggs etc.

I have 4 barbury female ducks, that i was going to book into the next local poultry auction, and even though we have a pond/water area for them, they allways look grubby and dirty.,so i was going to give them a bath the night before the auction, so they look nice and clean, as i dont want people thinking they are not very good ducks...I know they will prob end up being bought for food :pale: , but this is something i am getting my head around, so i am not trying to get too attached to my birds anymore...

So i was just wondering does anyone gives their ducks a bath either before an auction or show, and what do you use to clean them?

To clean them I would suggest that you separate them and give them a clean container of water to splash around in 24 hours before the auction, if you can keep them on grass or concrete rather than mud that would help too, no need to bathe them - they will do it for you.

thank you theabsinthfairy....i dont know why, but my other ducks seem to keep clean, but the barbur's any little bit of dust or mud.. they seem to attract it....

Its going to break my heart them going, as they are right cheeky things. but i got to be realistic, and toughen myself up...
