Talk about feeling like a fool!

Post: # 198282Post Cligereen »

I feel so stupid right now...I'm a 24 carat, gold-plated plonker in fact!

I have the 'ish site saved as one of my favourites and it links directly to the forums. This means I very rarely see the home page. Anyhoo, on Saturday I had a look and saw there was a chat room, so I went to look at it. I chose a name and almost immediately a very pleasant girl called Trish replied saying that she was sure somebody would be along soon and to wait a while. I replied to Trish and did as she asked but after about 20 mins nobody else had joined and Trish wasn't replying to me either. So I apologised and promised I would visit again later and left the chat room.

Tonight I thought I'd give it another go...and guess what...Trish replied with exactly the same message! I'd been chatting to a bloody computer all along! :confused5:

I feel really stupid. I used to titter at my great-grandmother doing things like that...like the time when super-glue was new to the market and my brother and I super-glued a penny to the back door step and we watched with a gang of friends as she attempted to prize it off with a bread-knife, laughing like drains. She wasn't used to the 'new invention'. Well, I'm the bloody same now! The sad thing is, she was in her eighties at the time, so she had some excuse but I'm only 49!

Ah well, better stick to the shovels and the spuds coz IT obviously isn't my forte.

I really do feel stupid you know!

Ach, you plonker!!!!

Only joking - I've done similar. And, being 12 years younger than you, I REALLY ought to know better.

I think we ought to ask the all important question, though - why is the robot called Trish?

Not quite sure, but back in the very early days of the Ish main site there were some cartoons and the character was called TrISH or something like that..... maybe it's a play on that. :dontknow: I suppose it's a bit silly really and better to just have nobody replying at all!

LOL, that made me laugh.

yes, Trish started as a cartoon character (I'll find them later) the Idea was Andys and the artwork was made by a friend of his this a talented artist, called Spencer (I think). The character Trish was a scatty gardener/ allotmenter that always got things a little wrong.
The Trish chatbot used to contact me when people entered the room, I have no idea when that broke. There is also a forum bot called trishBot, it/she used to wish people happy birthday but she went mental one night so I have not turned her on since. It/she also reports on the nasty spambots the join and posts about them in the moderators area. Just like the original cartoon character the trishbots are a little scatty and get things wrong sometimes.

One day I will finish off the TrishBot so that she can replace all the moderators :error: :hiding:

well, just like your post, there is more than one

there is of course http://www.selfsufficientish.com/ which I assume Cligereen was talking about because most referances to the chat room have been removed.

and there is also http://www.selfsufficientish.com/search/ another unfinished project, which has feeds of the last 10 posts on the main site, last 10 forum posts and the last 10 links (yes, the links are again another unfinished project  )

The search is google advert based with 'safe search' turned on, the idea behind it is that people can use it for their home page so they have google and everything on that is happening on Ish easily displayed.

Actually, if you can do the moderators, why not go whole hog and do all the posters too? Imagine - Trishbot, the font of all Ish knowledge, eternally talking to herself (and telling herself off).

Being new here I also tried the chat - I verbally apologised to Trish as I left. I'm 19. I build websites.

She will create an infinite loop causing the internet itself to implode, thus creating a technological Armageddon where mankind must survive by eating the by-then-worthless loose change from behind the sofa . . . I think we had better disable Trish :?

John - when you've mastered the Trishbot, could you make me a real life one please?

I need one that will be able to decorate the house without making a mess, who can collect the eggs & sort the birds out in the mornings, who can fight with the turkey tom to get in & out of the turkey pen & shed. She must be able to help me make chicken coops, put up netting to stop the birds from laying in the top bank, pot up my plants & water them every day, and weed the ground elder out of existence.

I'll even come over to collect - will Sunday be too soon?
The more people I meet, the more I like my garden
