Sewing hlep please: measure twice cut once!

Hello

I am about to attempt to make some decorations for our wedding (next saturday - eek)!
I have bought some pretty cream and yellow check fabric and would like to do a hemmed square for the centre of each table for a vase of flowers to sit on (sort of a fabric table mat to go on top of tablecloth).

I'd like to make these into cushion covers or seat pads afterwards. I have measured our cusion covers and they are just over 17" square. Does anyone have any idea how much hem to allow? I'm sure I can manage something but any help appreciated!

I would also like to make some bunting and if anyone has ever done this, advice would also be appreciated on this!

Use 2cm all the way around for your table cloths, iron in 1cm and then fold and iron in again and topstitch over them. Make them to a size, so the finished tablecloths are 1.5 cm bigger all the way round than your cushions. to turn them into cushions afterwards just sew them together and put little snap fasteners at the open side. Use a seam allowance of 1cm to make the cushions.

I have never made bunting, but if you bind the triangles with biasbinding they should get a neat finish!

Congrats on the wedding, these sound like lovely ideas for decorations! Only wanted to add: I remember someone on here (it may have been Mrs Flibble?) recommending that you cut out the slopey sides of bunting with pinking shears, as this will stop it fraying and if you've got a lot to do it would be quicker than hemming it or bias binding it (although the binding would look lovely if you've got time.) I always think bunting's a lovely idea and want to make some for our garden.

++ one more thing, I always find an envelope back on a cushion is quick and easy to do and works as well as anything else (you make the back out of 2 pieces about 3/4 length of the front and overlap them when you sew them to the front, finishing the edges that don't get trapped in seams) - but if you're making the cushions out of 2 squares the same that wouldn't work so please ignore me

Thanks all, that's just what I needed, some good old straightforward instructions

Head's becoming slowly mangled due to family fall outs (why why why?) and over enthusiastic mothers who are trying to help but are wearing me out in the process!

No-one thinks I should be making anything they all keep saying I've got enough on as it is but this is one of the best bits for me and no way am I giving it up (though pinking shears give me more chance of actually finishing for saturday - just don't tell anyone I said that )

Hello, thought I'd post a pic of some of the bunting I made. I was really happy with it and it made the village hall look very friendly and festive. Thanks for the help.
