This is the first year I've had the chance to leave my purple curly kale so long and it has sprouted out in all directions. Last night I just chopped off some of the leafy shoots all with little flower buds on the end and steamed it a la PSB and very nice it was too!
Not quite as good but hey, no PSB this year so I am very pleased! Also it's nice and tender and not at all like winter kale where the stalks are tough and need cutting off.So this year I will make sure it is planted in the same place as last year i.e. followed by melons/squash etc so it doesn't need to come out early.
PSB = Purple Sprouting Brocolli for those who don't know what I'm on about.
