felting question...

Post: # 190007Post Silver Ether »

Right I could just be thick ... but I know I am not so just put it down to age ... I found a pattern to crochet a bowl for felting ... never felted anything . Read this link and that link I understand the agitating and even the blocking ... but all the blocking says lie flat between towels or some such ... question is ... ??? bowl shape???.... do I put wet felted piece on a bowl to shape it and leave till dry ... :dontknow: It sounds a really daft question ... but I know some here will have a laugh at me than tell me ... :flower:

http://morewaystowastetime.blogspot.com ... -bowl.html

this should help! some step by step instructions and it suggests using a mould to dry your bowl once you've felted it

its been a few years since ive made felt and that was the 'traditional' method using the freshly dyed wool fibres rather than yarn.

Are you going to felt it by hand? I always want to try felting but the instructions I see tend to be for American washing machines which seem to be different to ours (you can keep stopping them and fishing your thing out to see if it's done yet) - and I worry that doing it by hand would take ages, but perhaps it won't and I am just being a wimp! Let us know how it goes!

Right followed the instructions posted by crowsashes .. in a bowl by hand method .. took longer than artical said but it was rather peacefull agitatating and looking out of the kitchen window ... and I got it to felt ... Yay but I really dont think its going to be any other shape than flat ... :(

actually just had an idea ... I got another bowl like the one I am using will put thay over the first one and put an old fashioned flat Iron on it as a weight ...

also found this link with a stove top way of felting .. ot rather fulling... if nothing else I learnt a new word ...

usually find me wandering around with the damp felted bowl in my hand looking for just the right sized object to block it on. usually a glass or a jar
this is my latest one, which i blocked on a large coffee jar!

Yes definitely! I love felted beads! Go Crowsashes

Silver Ether now I know this is really a stupid question, but, was your bowl bowl-shaped before you felted it? Or were you felting it to shape it?
