I was really organised at the beginning of the year, I separated all my seeds into months, I just realised I haven't done Februarys seeds yet, do you think they will mind?

Given the weather, I'm sure February's seeds will only be too happy to have waited.

fleece baby blankets are great for keeping seed trays warm inside.

while im waiting for them to germinate i stick one over the seed trays ( on top of the plastic cover etc) helps to keep the temperature constant.

ive just re - arranged my lounge ( to make way for seedlings) so now have a whole table ready to raise them on. im lucky its quite warm in here so they are doing fine.

i have peas, beans, radish and sunflowers  growing fine in my green house ( my brother insisted on growing sunflowers now!)

and im going to get started on chillis toms etc next week.

I noticed that B&Q had heated propagators for £9.99 - although that is still quite a lot compared to the price of tomatoes!

I have just popped in some leeks and onions, aubergene (why oh why do I bother, I don't think I have had a single fruit ever!), sweet and hot peppers, tomatoes, loads of herbs and my broad beans and peas are now about 1inch high.

Will be sowing onion and shallot sets outside this weekend, first things to go in my new patch, which is terrifying as the rest is still turf at the moment!

My tomatoes are germinating now. I sowed them a week or ten days ago in clear pastic egg boxes with a hole in the bottom of each section. These are just the right size for my windowsill. I put them on the kitchen windowsill and considering it's cold tile and my kitchen is unheated (although south facing window) I'm amazed they've germinated. Perhaps its the variety? I've lost the damn seed packet now but do remember that I got them FREE from BBC gardeners World magazine. Ten packets of seed for about £2 postage. They might still be available on the Thompson & Morgan website will have a look.

I've never used these plastic egg boxes before but think they're great. You can easily open and shut the lid and keep the seeds warm. Only problem is I must confess to buying eggs from caged hens for the first time in years. Feel really bad about it but finances have been dire over the winter and I buy loads of eggs because I'm cooking everything from scratch and they make good cheap meals.

I'd love to have my own chickens. Have the space, although lots of foxes very close by. Just need money really to get them housed safely and get round husband who thinks self sufficiency idea is barmy. I'll get round him.

Sorry went a bit off topic.

My tomato seeds are Thompson & Morgan Ailsa Craig. No longer available free but worth buying for easy germination.
