Mothers

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Just had my Mum round for dinner.

After long, slow cooking, she was very tender.

(Sorry, but she really came for dinner and it was hard work).

We have mine round for dinner every day. She lives with us. What are you complaining about

Oh god it's sooooo hard some sometimes isn't it?

Will our kids say this about us?

I'm complaining because I'm knocking on 60 and she can STILL make me feel like a 5-year old.

How do they do that?

Oh can't they just make you feel like a complete idiot!

Here's a classic conversation with my Mother, on Christmas day, when she opened a present that I had made for her. It was a fabric decoration in the shape of a Christmas tree and filled with scented herbs and spices.

Her: "Oh that's sweet, did you make it? Oh no you couldn't have done not with all that delicate stitching around the edge!"

Me: "Yes I did actually"

Her: "Oh I would never have the patience to do something like this".

Definitely one for the pot.

I love my mother to bits - sometimes it's bits small enough to fit into a blender!
One of my mothers classics was when we invited her and my Dad for Christmas dinner she asked how cope with the cooking!
She also mentioned panty girdle, hair dye and wrinkle cream in the same sentence with reference to me! :angryfire: :angryfire:

And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

my mum aint so bad to be honest, its my gran whos the worst!

on looking for a job 'ill believe it when see it'

on me looking after my son ' shes good with him' ( i guess thats because im his mother!)

on the cupboard that stores the electric, gas etc, that needs constant acess ' oh you could put a set of shelves in front of that and put all ur dishes on!' ( and how do you expect me to read the metre or shut of the gas in an emergency :banghead: )

on telling me the benefits on a tumble dryer ' it dries your clothes better than the line does' wont even attempt to explain that one!

on food, 'it never tastes as good as h£inz' 'oh thats not proper gravy you didnt use granules :angryfire: '

on my craft stuff ' you could have just brought one you know!'

she still makes me feel like im a toddler , rearranging my kitchen, putting the pans in the cupboard as 'they might fall of the wall'

telling me how to make a bed and the rambling on about me not having a fire on day in day out . if i wanted to live in a sauna i would :angryfire: i dont think she understands the concept of a jumper and that around 16-18 celcius is warm enough!

ok i could go on but i wont!

i doubt shed make a tasty dish bit to bitter if you ask me!

Both my mother-in-law and father-in-law are hell. One time we sat down to a lunch of soup that I'd made (and had told them so) and then he goes on to tell me how simple it is to make soup and gives me step by step instructions - :banghead:
Oh, so many things I could tell you but it would take years!

A couple of observations - milims and I are obviously related (or at least our respective mothers are (mine being of the step variety). And Crowsash's mum must have learned her mothering skills from Rosendula's ma.

I keep praying (as a good atheist) that this is not how it has to be - we won't become like them will we? (have we got an I'm desperate smilie?)
