Buying flour

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Buying flour

Post: # 184912Post Julysea »

I'm trying to find the nearest local flour mill that I can to start bulk-buying my flour, and the nearest I can find to Surrey in the southeast, is Shipton Mill in the Cotswolds. Does anyone know of, or use, one that is closer?

Thanks!
Liz

Weald and downland museum grinds flour regularly, or used to.

We use Shipton Mill wholemeal flour. It's lovely and makes fabulous bread and is a good price, especially for organic. We buy it in 16kg sacks from the wholefood warehouse in Inverness.

And anyone who has received a parcel from me in a slightly "dusty" brown wrapper will know how good the bags are for postal services afterwards

Michelham Priory, Bateman's and Windmill Hill all are working mills around us (East Sussex) might be worth contacting them direct
And Infinity Foods wholesale ,Brighton might be of use too
