Baby Sweetcorn 'Minipop' - have you grown it?

Post: # 184071Post bonniethomas06 »

Hi,

I am thinking of trying baby sweetcorn along with my normal sweetcorn this year and have been doing a bit of research :study:

Have you grown it? I am not sure how many I need to grow - i.e whether you get the same number of cobs on a plant as with 'big' corn or are they heavier croppers? Was thining of doing 12 plants (feeing 4 people)? :dontknow:

Thanks

Bonnie

We grew it last year and got 2 cobs per plant.
Make sure you pick it small otherwise it'll get big and taste at that size isnt 100%

we've done it for the last couple of years.. we sow the whole packet though. 2-3 cobs per plant, so not a lot of yield for your land, but delish! - they dont need to be sown in a block like other sweetcorn, so you could fit them in here there and everywhere

We grew it last year and got about 4-5 cobs per plant - the plants themselves grew as tall as 'standard' sweetcorn - so take up a lot of room for a realtively small crop. Do have the advantage that they can be grown individually scattered about the garden as you are not bothered about the corn kernels swelling (so don't need cross fertilising).

Tried these last year ...didn't ick them nearly small enough, but will try again this year in the garden not up the lottie so can keep a closer eye on them!

Thanks for the advice - think I will give it a miss this year, as it does seem an awfully big plant for so few cobs.

Perhaps when I have mastered 'normal' corn I will give it a go.
