Chili success!!!

It's never happened before, but I've finally broken my duck. I've got loads of green chilis on the greenhouse plants - but now I have three red ones amongst them. Only three, I know, but they made me do a double-take. Harvest time tomorrow, then.

Right - the little darlings are all in. I got 17 ounces of chilis from six plants. Any experts out there - is this yield good, bad or indifferent?

And yes, I have plans for them in a curry base sauce. But the freezer's packed to the gunnels - I may have to bottle it.

Whew - moment of panic there thinking I'd planted the wrong stuff. Jalapenos are chilis, aren't they Susie?

Susie - I grew Chilli Shake last year and only got about 2-3 varieties out of them - but the packet didn't say Jalapenos (only mentioned Cayenne I think) so I don't have a clue what I got. I did get a lot of long fat ones plus long thin ones rather like Cayenne. They all ripened so when I strung them up they were already red so they dried OK. But yours are really pretty!

I'm looking forward to next year. Not only will I have my 3mx4m recycled free greenhouse up and running but I will also have some chilli plants growing in it. I've bought a few varieties but i couldn't resist the seeds of the hottest chilli in the world, the Bhut Jolokia, Ghost Chillies. They have a reputed SHU of over 1,041,000 "" yup over a million SHU's... lovely....

I'm in the NE of england and as for comparing with Scotch bonnet... they don't !!, lol.

Scotch bonnets are rated at between 100,000 and 350,000 SHU

SHU means sckoville heat units and the way they test these is that each SHU in a drop of water so it takes so many SHU or drops of water to extinguish the taste of the chili. Therefore it takes over 1 million drops of water to extinguish 1 drop of chilli....
