Do you keep livestock? Having any problems? Want to talk about it, whether it be sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, bees or llamas, here is your place to discuss.

Theoretical goose question

Post: # 164430Post Graye »

I don't have any and don't really intend to have any but I DO need to try to find out this information for some research I'm doing so I thought someone on here might help me.

Are goose chicks like fowl chicks insofar as they are apparently reasonably self-sufficient from birth? For instance would you buy day old goose chicks and be able to raise them without a mother goose? Are poultry chicks generally so different from other birds in this respect? I see other birds feeding their young for weeks and they are extremely helpless little scraps for quite some time.

What do they actually eat if we assume they start picking up their own food straight away? And if we were looking at wild geese, what do those chicks pick up and eat?
Growing old is much better then the alternative!
