green pumpkin!

Post: # 162501Post Urban Ayisha »

as i couldnt get down to my lottie last week a friend of mine harvested a few bits and bobs for me and cut a very young pumpkin thinking it was an overgrown courgette! i've heard if you leave it on a sunny windowsill it will ripen, its been on there for about 5 days now and no joy... what to do? is it wasted?

Oh dear. :( How big is it? Generally if it is a winter pumpkin you need to leave them on the plant for as long as possible until just before the frosts and then ripen them even more on a sunny windowsill or in a frost free sunny place.

Underripe ones picked too early can turn orange but can still be unripe and inedible inside - last year a neighbour gave us one and it wasn't worth bothering to cook as the flesh was beige.

Hopefully your plant will produce many more than you can leave to ripen properly.
