Poorly chicken

Post: # 159381Post sam_uk »

Hi all

For the last couple of days one of my chickens has been ill.

Runny droppings
unsteady on feet
Unusual posture with tail down
pale around the eyes and comb
Not laying

I cannot see any evidence of lice or mites.
There does not appear to be any swelling around the abdomen or vent
She is eating

I read this until I was throughly confused http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index ... 200200.htm

Any ideas?

Thanks

tbh you have described what every poorly chicken looks like... it could be so many things

I would consider the following...

could she have worms? when did you last worm them?

redmite? they live in the house not on the hen, running a bit of paper tissue along the underside of the perch... if you have any red showing.. you have redmite. there is a lot of it about apparantly.

any nasal discharge?

is she holding her beak open?

does she cough or sneeze or sound rattly?

how old is she? might it just be her time?

I like like minded people... a bit like minded anyway.. well people with bits of their minds that are like the bits of my mind that I like...
