My poor little poblano chili plants

Post: # 152939Post Shutsumon »

There they were happy as anything in my little plastic greenhouse thing that cost me £20 from Bargain Madness...

Only today - while I was at work the staging they were on collapsed and tipped them all over the ground. :(

I'm not sure how long they'd been lying there when I got in but I reassembled the shelves and then desperately repotted them and gave them a drink.

I just hope they survive the shock.

you have my heartfelt sympathy. i have a porch which doubles as a greenhouse and has shelves fixed onto the wall. last week my biggest shelf fell off and took with it all my tomatoe plants, but worse still all the trays of seeds that i had planted. so when i scooped the tomatoes back up and into pots to recover i suspect that they now contain seeds for loads of other things, lots of lavender, some chilli and basil , lavender is the problem as they are so hard to see . still maybe someone will want lavender scented tomatoes .

hope your chillis recover , they are normally tough little customers . :flower:

I've just had similar, my little plastic greenhouse got blown over in the gales last night :( . It's the first time I've tried to grow tomatoes from seed, and these were sub arctic plenty seed from my dad too! Plus my leeks and chillies were in there too. Most miffed with the weather it was terrible last night

That's terrible. :-(

I think it was the wind did for me as well inspite of it being in a fairly sheltered position. I've been watching the greenhouse paranoidly all morning. It seems stable now but it's my birthday and I'm going to be out overnight. I dread that I might come back tomorrow and find it fallen over.

Try repotting everything - they might well recover. My chili plants look much happier this morning. I did however discover I lost one roma tomato plant which had been flattened and broken by a flying chili plant. Fortunately I have 3 more and loads of minibel.

I didn't mention but my brassica seed trays also went flying. They perked up almost as soon as they were restored to their trays and watered. The chillis however looked *very* sorry for themselves last night.

Thanks I'll try that they might perk up, I must admit they didn't look as if they were snapped in half so fingers crossed although I've had to leave them out today whilst I'm at work.

Glad to hear it! I wonder how many more people will have problems with plastic greenhouses blowing over in wind. I had one once and it lasted less than a week and the whole frame which included some inbuilt staging, collapsed in a buckled heap. Never again!

This is the 3rd year I have used mine, there have been many moments when I have woken up, expecting to find that it has blown away, but fingers crossed , so far I have been lucky, and I dont know what I would do without it now.
I dont leave it out during the winter, as that would be pushing my luck to far, and when I first get it out and it hasnt got much in it, I use the bottom shelf to store a huge bag of compost. That weighs the whole thing down. By the time I need to use the bottom shelf, usually (hopefully) the worst of the winds have died down.
If it does feel like it is going to be extra breezy, I put one of the woodne bench seats in front of it and hope for the best.

You can bet now I have written this, the next gust of wind will see it flying into the sky, doing a reenactment of the house in Wizard of Oz! :flower:
