planting tomato's in a polytunnel

Post: # 146532Post Chicken6 »

I'm trying to work out what i can get in my PTfor the summer months.

How close do you all plant your tomato plants? due to lack of wind due I need to give them more space?

My list for the tunnel in the summer is below, not sure if there are any other things that would grow well during the summer that wouldn't outside.

tomato's x ?
sweet peppers x 15
cucumbers x 4
melons x 4
sweetcorn x block
squash x 4
french beans (possibly)
basil
marigolds
carrots

It depends a bit on what variety they are and more especially what type of plant they are. For example ..

I'm growing Tigerella in my small greenhouse and they are cordons so will need to be about 2 feet apart.
In the polytunnel I will be growing Subarctic Plenty which is a bush variety and need to be at least 3 feet apart.
In my conservatory I'm growing Totem which is a container variety and only need about 9 inches between them.

There you go, a good example of how to complicate a simple question
Tony

Disclaimer: I almost certainly haven't a clue what I'm talking about.

Thanks

They are all cordons so that makes it easy and I'm only growing two types as I'm growing the cherry types at home.
Just potting them on on now thinking they would go on the staging soon but just checked the met office website and they mentioned snow in two weeks so maybe they'll sit indoors at bit longer
