Black onions

Ok, I bought some black onion seeds from the herb store as they are nice in a curry but got to thinking, could I plant some and would they turn into "Black Onions" Any thoughts??
Member of the Ishloss weight group 2013. starting weight 296.00 pounds on 01.01.2013. Now minus 0.20 pounds total THIS WEEK - 0.20 pounds Now over 320 pounds and couldn't give a fig...

I bought red onion seeds (red baron???) and the seeds are black... never got an onion from them, I found onions far to difficult to grow from seeds.

I think you will find that what is sold as black onion seeds are in fact kalonjii (Nigella) seeds. They are not a relative of an onion but they are called that as the seeds look similar.

Oh well they taste nice in a curry. I'll still stick some in a pot and see what, if anything happens. I did think that they might be heat treated or something so they would not grow but no harm in trying....

I have grown both coriander and mustard from regular shop bought spices so something will probably happen :mrgreen:
