If the government are gonna get into propaganda....

Post: # 142503Post mrsflibble »

THEY SHOULD RESEARCH IT A BIT BETTER!!!!

in the uk at the mo we have a scheme going called "change4life". you sign up, send off for a pack and they send you a star chart thing to keep your kids entertained. each chart comes with 4 sheets of vegetable and fruit stickers on it to use in place of stars... i tried filling in yesterday's for sophie but the numpties have put no parsnip, swede or avocado on it!!!

ok, what's all this about eating local and seasonal?! they have a mango and a pineapple sticker...yeah cos they're fricking local

parsnip and swede are two of our staples at the mo'. i'm gonna draw some on some spare stickers i have, but i am annoyed.

Nah, it's you that's out of touch Mrs F, haven't you heard that due to global warming there are now Mango orchards all over Essex ?
It is a bit sad though isn't it, there are probably people in government departments that think that Mangos and Pineapples really do grow in the UK.

I think the best bit is the lack of apples on the stickers, I tried convincing my 9 yr old that he should have a tin of prunes as there is a sticker for that, but he decided against them!
the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........

Also, don't forget MrsF - there seems to be an widespread downer on swedes..... I have arguments with Andy, who still calls them 'turnips'... and here in Ireland they're called turnips too.... what's all that about then? And....WHAT do they call turnips??
The more people I meet, the more I like my garden

The Irish refer to them as red or white turnips, although what we know as swedes are the most common "turnip" here.
I wonder what Swedish people call them ? :study:

I seem to remember there was a long discussion about swedes V's turnips on a thread a while back but I can't find it now. I think that the full title is swedish turnips? so swedes to some and turnips to others.

Being a Scot they're neeps to me! And lovely bashed with butter black pepepr and wee bit nutmeg. hmmmmmmm

Mrs F, you should write to the government and point out the food miles/ carbon footprint involved in mangoes and pinapples and see what response you get!!
