Re: Wild Horses of Newbury
During the infamous anti road protests at Newbury, England in the mid 1990s,
Mark Carroll made a short film called 'The Wild Horses of Newbury'
'The Wild Horses of Newbury' was shot very early on a single morning in February. The whole episode only lasted a few minutes.. nothing was staged. The bypass security guards and police had circled two very old Oak trees and were preparing to chop them down , when two scruffy, seemingly wild horses appeared and began to interfere with the felling. One of the horses even confronted one of the police horses..... It was a very magical moment.
The film was first included in 'Undercurrents 6' the alternative news video, it then made it onto 'Channel 4' and has since been broadcast all around the world. It was recently voted 'favourite undercurrents film' by viewers.
It was watched by over 300,000 during the 'Supershorts 2006' online film festival.
The film has since gone 'viral' and has been uploaded to lots of different video sharing sites worldwide, by many different people. It is estimated that the film has now been seen by over 3,000,000 people.

Re: Wild Horses of Newbury
Thanks, I watched it! Two things I noticed were (1) the dayglo people did not seem to get out of the way when the first tree was felled!!! I hope it took a few of them out with it!
and (2) we don't see any majestic trees like that here in this part of Brittany because their side branches are all cut off every few years for firewood or for other reasons too numerous to mention (a lot historic) so all we have between the fields here are hideous bare trunks which resprout - looks OK in summer but in winter looks dreadful.
So be grateful for your lovely trees even if you have a few less of them!
