My little dog
Sorry about this but am feeling very sad tonight. Have just had my little dog put to sleep today. A few months ago I asked for help here as she had just been diagnosed with cancer and I wanted to do the best I could for her. I think I have made her last few weeks as good as I could, thanks to lots of people, but now I am feeling that twelve years was just not enough. Have been through this before and know I will cope but today it just seems very hard. Sorry!! pbf

Re: My little dog
So sorry to read about your loss. You have lost a member of your family, and you are entitled to feel sad. No life seems long enough when it belongs to someone we love, animal or human.
I bet your dog had a much better life than most, and more love too, right up to the end.
It will take a while for your pain to diminish, but be proud of the care and affection and quality of life you gave your little dog all these years.

We all have two gifts we should try to use as much as possible - imagination and humour.
Imagination compensates us for what we are not.
A sense of humour consoles us for what we are.
And wisdom tells us not to worry about it!

Re: My little dog
Oh pbf! What a sad start to the new year
There's not a lot I can say, because I know how sad it is - our little spaniel hasn't many more weeks left & as you said, we can only hope that the last few months are as comfy as possible.
In time the hurt will ease - in the meantime, we're here for you - you know that

so sorry to hear this -
you know tho.. its the last gift you can give them etc
I ask myself each time why we have pets when it hurts to much to lose them... but still we do.

Awwww
It's always upsetting when a member of the family passes away (and yes animals are members of the family) but at least your wee one didn't suffer and I know she had a good 12 years with you!

Thankyou all so much for responding to me, even though we don't know each other, I feel we are all friends, and it has really helped me. Unless you have been through it people don't understand - it's just a dog!!! Have got up this morning, and there is no need to open the back door! How sad is that! Sorry again, but also many many thanks. pbf

Even though it hurts like hell, you did the right thing by letting her go to the rainbow bridge. I feel for you, it's a hard thing to do. My thoughts are with you.

Re: My little dog
I'm so sorry about your dog.
I lost my lovely (but crazy) boxer Mason very suddenly some years ago and it was not only the instant sense of loss etc, it was the ongoing silly little things, his favourite squeaky toy found under the sofa, having to give away his food, the ease with which the postman was able to get letters through the letter box...
I must admit I was so sad without him that I soon approached a breeder locally and bought another boxer who had been deemed not suitable for breeding and so surplus - a very sad and withdrawn creature until we managed to teach her about being a puppy again. And so I had seven short years with equally crazy Saffie, only to have to make the awful decision to have her put to sleep after she suffered a stroke just before Xmas. This was extra hard as she was by then living with my Mom and she was as upset as me.
Every dog is special. Dogs become such a huge part of your family and rely on us to do our best for them. They repay us with their total devotion. I'm sure you will grieve for your dog for quite some time but eventually the happy times will become more memorable than the sad ones.

Thinking of you - I threw food scraps to the floor for several weeks after our last dog died! I know how you feel.

Re: My little dog
Sorry to hear your news pbf.
As others here have said, it's devastating to lose a member of your family. I still miss our cats (Minnie, Dennis and most recently Dora) who've lived with us over the years.
The pain diminishes over time though, and my abiding memories are their silly ways and "personalities" - we often laugh about things they did.

So sorry to hear this pbf, and know how you feel. Had to have our golden retriever put to sleep a few months ago, she was only 8 as well.
I am thinking of you.

Re: My little dog
I'm thinking of you over here too.
Its hard when you have to let a beloved pet go, but at least you had the humanity to let her go gently.
I always believe its better to allow an animal to die with dignity rather than carry on and lose it.
