Re: Sweets from our childhood
Rhubarb and custard, sherbet fountains, sherbet paper twists, tom thumb pips...............
And if you're anywhere near Kings Lynn, there's a shop that sells them all. And yes, you can ask for a quarter of bullseyes! And they do mail order too! Have a look at http://www.queeniessweetshop.co.uk/

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Parma violets, candy cigarettes and cola bottles were my faves.
Does anyone remember spacedust, that stuff that used to crackle on your tongue and bounce about in your mouth!?
Also, I lived in a seaside town full of tacky gift shops and they always used to sell sweets that looked like pebbles off the beach. The problem was they actually tasted like pebbles aswell until you got through the hard shell to the soft bit in the middle, so they weren't very popular!
And those cheap imitation smarties made of inferior chocolate, but we'd buy them anyway as they came in such excellent packaging, like a little plastic toadstool that you could use as a moneybox afterwards once you'd wretched your way through the revolting contents!

Re: Sweets from our childhood
teddy bears - little jelly bears 1/2p each
Shabba, I preferred the chocolate cigarettes because they came wrapped in an edible paper. I thought it was great that you could eat paper and I was more bothered about that than the chocolate.
