Hello

We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

Hello

Post: # 134482Post Shabba »

Hello. I've just joined and intended to introduce myself but being something of a technophobe I've got no idea whether I'm doing this right or not. Might I suggest for the "internet virgins" among us that it is made more obvious how to post messages! I've been staring at the screen for 10 minutes since I registered trying to work out how to do it and I'm still sceptical even as I write this!

Anyway, I'll do it and hope for the best. I live in Norfolk, am 33 years old and congenitally lazy. This I justify by referring you all to Tom Hodkinson's fine book "How to be Idle" which lists 100's of good reasons to take life easy! I grow some of my own veg in currently limited space but have plans for greater things. I live in a rented house so although the garden is massive I'm forbidden to dig it up. But after Christmas I'll be moving to my own place with plenty of garden and I'm studying horticulture at college in the hope of improving my somewhat unscientific growing methods. My partner and I also own 11 acres of mixed woodland which we don't have much time to work on at the moment but we have high hopes for that too.

I love all things "self-sufficient-ish" (including The Good Life!) and look forward to getting loads of good advice from all you seasoned sons and daughters of the soil.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas! :reindeer:

Hello shabba, it must be a Norfolk thing to be idle, & not very good on computers. That's me,that is!
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

It's such a pleasure to find kindred spirits so soon! I have never joined a site like this before and despite having looked at it many times I never plucked up the courage to try until now. I mean, what is a URL when it's at home? And why would I want to not automatically parse one?

Wellycome Shabba,

If I remember rightly when I was a virgin i never knew whether I was doing it right.

Still don't for that matter
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

A URL is computer speak for a link which people click on to something else on the internet like a website for example. This is a URL http://www.google.fr/

Parse I haven't sussed out yet  , nor BBCode (why would you want to disable it) and why would you want to disable the smilies? Just don't use them if you don't like them!

Thanks for the URL explanation MillyMollyMandy. I think I'm gonna need a regular interpreter of computer jargon being part of this forum. And I love the smilies, especially this one :bootyshake: which I've got no real reason to use, it just makes me laugh!

Shabba - you can abbreviate me to MMM cos nobody expects you to type it out in full! Ditto anyone else who has a long name - there's usually a shortened or abbreviated version. The only real problems are the members who sign up with strange combinations of letters and numbers because you can't even call them anything in your head!
