Chicken Fencing ???

Post: # 132557Post gray_bale »

I need to let my chickens out into the garden.

I normally keep them barn reared, but ???

Some people only use 3ft high mesh others use 6ft.

Anybody got any experiences of either and can point me in the right direction.
With 40 years experience the goodlife normally ends up costing money one way or the other, and a bad back ???

The first fence I built for the chickens was 3' high. Before I'd finished, a hen flew up on top of the fence to watch and see what I was up to. I'd say it should be 6' at least.

I have gone for the 6ft option, we have fox's and odd people next door, i dont have my chuks just yet, getting them in March, but a very old farmer (102!) told me 6ft or dont bother, he also insisted on wing clipping and showed me how to do it properly and reminded me to alternate the clipping so the chuks dont adapt and flutter off somewhere.

Even my fat old ex-bats with clipped wings can manage 3".
