This time last year a 'Sunday dinner' meant boil-in-the-bag beef (something made of Quorn for me), instant mash, tinned peas and supermarket brand frozen carrots and/or broccoli and/or cauliflower. I considered myself an 'adequate' cook - couldn't do anything special, but rarely burnt anything.
It was around this time last year I took on my allotment, and so much has changed since then. Not only do I grow a lot of my own food, but I make lots of things from scratch - meals, bread, yoghurt, biscuits, pastries, etc., etc.
Now for the bit where I stick my chest out and my head inflates to hot-air-balloon proportions -
My teenage daughter's friend stayed for tea tonight (that's what we call the evening meal around here), and I cooked a 'Sunday' tea. These days that means a roast joint of beef, roast potatoes, and veg that is either fresh from the ground, or stored home-grown, or if I've run out it might be bought from a farm shop or greengrocers.
Guess what!!!??? Our guest said, and I quote, "You're a real good cook. You're better than my Dad and my Mum put together". !

I've invited her to come to tea any time she wants
