We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

Greetings from Grenada - the Spice Isle

Post: # 128608Post cocoaloco »

I stumbled acrosss your excellent site while searching for advice on rearing lambs. (I have an orphan, with a broken leg, which I am trying to bottle feed without the benefit of milk replacer etc.)

We have a small cocoa farm, with some livestock, and a successful organic salad and herb business on the breathtakingly beautiful island of Grenada in the West Indies. We live in a place called Providence, on a piece of land which was once part of a large cocoa estate, on a mountain ridge overlooking the sea. We are aiming to be as self-sufficient-ish as it is possible to be here, and in time we plan to have two holiday cottages and offer eco-farm tourism to like-minded souls and nature lovers in general. Meanwhile we battle with the ever-encroaching bush and imagine what it will be like, one day, to walk through this piece of paradise.

I would love to show you some pictures but can't seem to shrink them to small enough files. Clueless I know. However my friend has recently posted a stunning slideshow of recent pictures on her blog. Go to http://freespirit-zooms.blogspot.com/ and you will see Providence in all its glory and most of the residents (the post is entitled Joy, 01 October). She does more justice to its beauty than my snapshots ever could.
