Definitely Autumn

I was on the beach with the cairns this morning...........very beautiful sunrise....but autumn is certainly here cos there was a real nip in the air. Feel like having a bonfire now! :dog: :dog:

Too right. The cardies are out, I'm contemplating packing up my shorts and putting them back in the loft until next year, my washing's not drying even if I hang it out first thing in the morning and leave it out all day, it's dark when I get up and too dark to go to the allotment in an evening any more :(

But the elderberries are ripe, I'm collecting hazelnuts, I've started digging over the ground (love digging - really lifts my spirits), there are enough dry leaves under the trees to kick around and stomp on, I'm about to take up a new and exciting challenge - knitting socks, I've had my first stew of the year with most of the vegetables being home grown and it was partly cooked in a blanket box (like a hay box, but instead of hay in a box I had blankets in a black bowl with another bowl on top, put it in the airing cupboard and covered it with towels). Time for hot, stodgy puddings with custard.. oooh! :happy4:

yes its here,i love autumn, walking the dogs last night the air was chilled,i had a jumper on under my mac for the first time, and there was frost glistening on the hedgerow on the way to the schoolbus this morning,i`ve collected some broken off branches to burn on the fire, there is a bit around as the man who cuts the hedgrows back is around now,he seems to bring the chilled air with him,not as many walking last night ,a few bats flying around but less walkers, maybe the chill put them off,

Autumn started here several weeks ago and we've had 4 frosts so far and put the wood burner on 4 times. Still seeing some swallows occasionally but I expect they are the ones from Britain passing overhead!

We've been crunching through leaves since July in our woodland as it has been another dry summer. I guess that's why the hedgerows and trees are now turning a good colour. I'm now battling with a very pesky red squirrel for my walnuts - never had the blighters stealing them before and it is my most important crop!!! :argue:

The best thing about this time of year is that in another month's time I won't be being eaten alive by harvest mites any more!

Yesterday it seemed to go from summer to autumn in the space of about three hours! When I left the house at lunchtime, it was gloriously sunny but by the time I got home it was grey and nippy... Gloomy and damp this morning too, got my new home-made socks on (which I was secretly waiting for a chance to wear).
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?

And now it's raining!
Oh well, enjoyed the indian summer while it was here.

We bought a calor gas fire on the weekend to get ready for the colder weather (not giving the gas company anymore money than we need to - 29.7% rise!). Had to use it this morning!

And I spoke too soon about autumn, cos it was winter yesterday!

I'm very pleased to see the 10 day forecast showing lots of rain, at long last. Sunshine day after day gets a bit much after a while.

Please, please ,please take some of ours. It's been raining here for five consecutive days - and I mean RAIN :(
restrictions must be tough though - pity we can't 'ship' some over. :sunny:

Can I have some too? We rarely get 5 consecutive days of rain even in winter - and it never rains here like it rains in England!
