The size of eggs

We have got chickens for the first time and two weeks ago they started laying. We are really pleased with the quality of the eggs -nice hard shells, smooth, perfect shape, lovely colours, fluffy whites, golden yolks etc. The only trouble is they are TINY. We knew that pullet eggs were small but these are like birds eggs. They are such prolific layers that we have more eggs than we know what to do with. If they were larger I would distibute them to friends and family but they are just a bit too small yet. I wondered if someone can tell me how long is it before they start to lay reasonably normal sized eggs ??

Um, I think they probably are birds eggs

When they start laying you can get some really tiny eggs, about as big as a blackbird's egg, but they soon settle down to laying normal sized eggs.
The first few weeks the 'normal' sized eggs are still a bit on the small side, after about 2 months they should be what you would call 'normal'
Also while they are settling down you might well get a huge egg now and again ... a double yolker, very nice to have boiled with soldiers

What breed did you get? Hybrid layers? Or Dutch bantams? That egg size is about right for the latter

They are hybrids - i.e. Warrens. Most of the eggs are small like Blackbirds eggs but just one or two have been a bit bigger and surprisingly been double yolkers. I know they probably will get bigger - just being impatient and wondering how much longer it will take. Thanks for the replies though !!
