Whats organic that I can use for the lice on my chooks?
I WILL NOT use kerosene or chemical powder for bugs ever again after having a poison-like reaction to louse powder myself!
And enough garlic powder for the flock would cost the earth!
Cider Vinegar in their water maybe???
All suggestions welcome
Lois

You can buy Diatomaceous Earth - its a non chemical powder - put it all over your chicken coop, in the bedding, in the food and on the chooks! Leaves them looking snowy white, and Ithink it works by drying out the red mite/lice etc

Re: GRRRR,,, Lice on chooks!
Diatomaceous (not sure on the spelling) is great to put around the perimeter of the house, in nest boxes and wherever they take their dust baths. But be very careful about how much dust you create when you use it, because if it gets in the lungs it can be quite dangerous, and will cause a very painful cough that lasts for days.
You can also feed them raw or garlic powder mixed up in yoghurt (plain is fine) once a week, and they will love you for it. Neem oil or pennyroyal oil on roosts and legs help deal to the mites that cause the scaley legs. It has to be repeated about once a month. I've also been told that basically any kind of oil on the roosts will help keep the mites away - it helps to smother them.
Sulphur powder is a safer thing with which to dust your chooks, as the dust isn't nearly as fine or sharp, and it's a natural deterrent.

You can get it from http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk. They do a whole stack of interesting stuff, although it may well be more expensive from them than from elsewhere. Still, worth a look.
