Hi,
I'm growing a tomato plant in my conservatory - variety is Moneymaker.
Plant has grown to about 4 feet high - I've been pinching out the side shoots (as you do) and all leaves look healthy.
For some reason, the top of the plant appears to have started growing two top shoots - it has sent two equal shoots off in a 'V' shape. One has started to grow a truss but the other one hasn't.
The upward growth has now slowed and looks stunted compared to the two Red Cherry tomatoes that I have next to it (that were originally shorter than the Moneymaker).
Should I snap off the top that doesn't have a truss setting? Or is it normal for Moneymakers to split the growth like this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Tomatoes - Moneymaker with double top?
Hi Jobi1,
I have some tomato plants which have bifurcated tops. I.m.o. you can't do anything wrong with tomatoes, really. If you want to snip out a tom and you regret it later, the plant will grow side shoots and you can save one of those. If you're satisfied with the number of flowers / setting fruit, you can take out both tops.
Good luck, good harvest,
Jandra

Thanks Jandra,
'Bifurcate' is a new word for me!
I've opted with snapping off the second top that doesn't have any trusses setting.
All is well. Cheers!

It's quite common for them to grow in that way ... I generally pinch one out, simply because it is easier to tie to it's cane ... if the other goes untied then it will probably snap under the weight of the tomatoes.
