I hope someone hasn't posted this elsewhere, but old tyres make great potato towers. Lay one tyre on top of the lawn with newspaper on the ground, place seed potatoes on the paper and cover with a bit of compost/soil/straw. As the plants get to the top of the tyre, put another tyre on and top up with more soil/compost/straw. Keep doing this until the potato plants die back, then know the whole lot over and get a great harvest of spuds! We used to et up to five or six tyres in a tower.
